Kingdom of Thieves
by Caroline Peckham & Susanne Valenti

(Forbidden Fairytales #1)
Kindle, 396 pages
Published: May 31, 2019
Genre: YA, Fantasy, Retelling, Romance
Rating: 4.5/5 stars

Goodreads

How to win a Princess:

1. Bring her father unspeakable amounts of wealth to enter a month-long competition.
2. Defeat all other suitors in hand-to-hand combat with your honor intact (and balls – heirs needed).
3. Be revered by every citizen in the kingdom for being a ‘hero’ amongst men. (Also known as a jackass).
4. Wear the pretty Princess on your arm while occupying her kingdom and claiming a right to the throne she isn’t allowed to sit on alone.

Aladdin doesn’t care about princesses, or much else for that matter.

The one thing he does care about? Gold.

And when he crosses paths with a traitor of the kingdom, he has a chance to get his hands on more than he ever could have dreamed of.

There’s only one rule: he can have everything in the hidden cave except a mysterious lamp.

But Aladdin doesn’t do rules. Just like he doesn’t do princesses. Although…he’s starting to change his mind on the latter.

For fans of Sarah J. Maas and Marissa Meyer, this is an Upper YA fairytale romance, an Aladdin and Rapunzel retelling with a dark twist on the original tales.

So instead I swore with all my heart that I would serve him well. I would grant his wishes and fulfill his dreams and make sure that his life was filled with everything he could ever desire. He owned me, mind, body and soul. And I was his for as long as he wanted.

I love retellings, so I jumped at the chance to read this one! Kingdom of Thieves is an intriguing fairy tale mash-up impressed me in nearly every aspect. A mash-up of Aladdin and Rapunzel, something I never would have thought of but it worked perfectly and not quite how you might guess.

Keeping true to the original tale, we first meet Aladdin who is caught stealing from a noble family and while in prison he meets Cassian, a former Royal Guard, who was charged with the crime ‘gazing upon the Princess’s face.’ Lol Aladdin agrees to free Cassian with the stipulation that he leads him to a cave of great treasures. And in this this cave Aladdin finds the genie’s lamp. I bet you could guess what happens next… JK you won’t know because it’s different, a new fresh twist on Aladdin’s tale. It’s hard not to spoil it, but I wont! If you like retellings, Aladdin and Repunzel, then you’ll just have to read it!

My grip on her tightened as I ached to pull her closer. I wanted to feel her mouth on mine but her gaze flickered with fear and I stopped, a groan nearly escaping my lips as I denied my body the pleasure it craved from her.

All the characters work together, even though they each have their own agendas. Aladdin hopes to rise above his street rat status; he wants to infiltrate the the Kingdom by winning the hand of the Princess and becoming Emperor. Cassian wants to overthrow Gothel, Rapunzel’s evil stepmother because she’s poisoning the Kingdom with magic. And Rapunzel wants her the freedom she’s been longing for, she also wants to save her father from Gothel’s influence.

And then there’s Kyra, the genie, who I think is one of my favourites, she’s great, definitely a fresh take on the role of a genie! She struggles with everyday life after being trapped in the lamp for a very very long period of time. She just wants to grant the wishes of her Master Aladdin without succumbing to the insanity she feels nipping at her heels. Honestly, I can’t wait to see what the next installment has to offer, and to see more of Kyra!

”Because fear is the only thing that reminds us we’re still alive after all this time.”

I loved this twist on old classics and how original it was considering it is a retelling of two popular fairytales that otherwise aren’t related. The characters are complex and the storyline is great! I can’t wait for the next book. I highly recommend it!

The holy mountain awaits.

As Callie and Montana take their fated path toward finishing the curse, they must rely on the courage of their friends to help them reach it before their enemies catch up.

It’s time to pay the debt. But are they ready to face the price?

~Review~

“And I still love you with the fierceness of a thousand suns.”

What an epic finale. This final book was so memorable and gut-wrenching, and did not disappoint. I absolutely love the infusion of Viking lore and the way this series is wrapped up is perfect; it was everything I had hoped for and so much more.

Eternal Love is the seventh book in the Age of Vampires series and it was addicting, I read it in one sitting. So many ups and downs, I was gripped from start to finish and what a finish indeed! It was an action packed emotional roller coaster that I’m still trying to recover from!

Callie and Montana take their fated path toward finishing the curse but they can’t do it alone. They must rely on the courage of their friends to help them reach it before their enemies catch up. It’s time to pay the debt.

“You were everything I ever wanted.”
“And you were too good for me. Too good for this to be your end.”

So many things have happened since the first novel, and these characters have grown so much and the character development in Eternal Love had such a huge impact on the story. Some people changed and some people finally accepted their true feelings. I loved reading about them and I loved the ending that they got.  This whole story-line is so unique, and the creativity behind the characters and the plot is just great! I’m going to miss these characters SOOO MUCH!

These books have definitely become one of my favorites of the year! So gut-wrenching, beautiful, action-filled, suspenseful and epic! I highly recommend I this series. You WILL be hooked from book one, and it WILL be a sad ending, because these characters are truly amazing. Such a bittersweet ending.

IM SOOOO SAD THIS IS THE END. BUT I’m looking forward to Caroline and Susanne’s next series… which they’ve just announced on their FB. ALSO, I just want to say how amazing these authors are… I mean 7 books in just 3 months is pretty frickin amazing! They sure know how to write a story and especially know how to keep people hanging in suspense for the next book!

Can the twins find a way to overcome the trials that are thrown their way? Or will the gods prevail once and for all…

The series will conclude in Book 7, Eternal Love.

WARNING: this is upper YA with sex scenes, battles and mild peril.

~Review~

*a copy was provided by the author*

“We’ve done too many wrongs against each other. We’re enemies. And that’s always the way it’s going to be.”

Just when you think nothing else terrible can happen it does! The characters continue to surprise me and the way they have grouped together prove a formidable force. I love these characters, the trials and struggles. I don’t want to stay too much…but these ladies really know how to leave the reader hanging with endings that you would never ever see coming.

Eternal Storm is the sixth book in the Age of Vampires series and it was addicting, I read it in one sitting. The twists and turns that Caroline and Suanne create are so mind blowing.

“I was his.”
“He was mine.”
“And the idea of losing him made e feel as weak as if a thousand suns were beating down on my back.”

Erik and Magnar are trapped within the hands of the new queen, Valentina, while their loved ones will stop to no end to get revenge. While Callie and Montanna desperately race south to reach the holy mountain to break the curse but Valentina is hot on their heels. The sisters must overcome the trails that are thrown in their way and save the men they love before it’s too late.

This book was a bit less action filled and slower compared to the other books. I enjoyed how the characters were able to have fun and time to themselves even for one night before being thrown back into their never-ending chaos!

“Angelica,” Valentina addressed her, smoothing down the creases in her jumpsuit. “Any more word from the base?”
“No,” Angelica answered. “I tried calling but there was no answer.”

This whole story-line is so unique, and the creativity behind the characters and the plot is just great! So much has happened since the first novel, and these characters have grown so much. That’s why I’ve really been loving Caroline’s books, they’re so different and unique, she is definitely an author to look out for! I’ve never read anything from Susanne, other than this series so far, but I’m looking forward to more from her.

This series is something to look out for… SERIOUSLY. You will be hooked from book one, and its hold on you until the very end. That cliff-hangar, got me so shook. These books truly have the most intense cliffhangers! This book was so heartbreaking and heartwarming at the same time!! I highly recommend it!

And I’m sooo happy that I just (May 9) started reading the 7th book, Eternal Love, review soon!!

Eternal Vow
by Caroline Peckham & Susanne Valenti

(Age of Vampires, #4)
Kindle, 398 pages
Published April 22, 2019

Goodreads

In the wake of the disastrous wedding, Montana and Callie are pulled in opposing directions by the binds that tie them.

While Montana yearns for Erik Belvedere, Callie is trapped between who her heart wants and the bloodsucker the gods have bound her to.

Tension builds as the gods toy with the slayers and the vampires, compelling them to collide. And with an age-old hatred burning between Magnar and Erik…it’s time for the fight to take place.

~Review~

*a copy was provided by the author*

“Endlessly different but eternally bound. The sun would set. And the moon would rise. The point at which the day met the night was always the most beautiful. So perhaps there was a chance for us yet.”

Eternal Vow is the fourth book in the Age of Vampires series and continues the story of Montana, Erik, Callie and Magnar.

These books are so beautifully written. These book take all your emotions on a ride.

Eternal Vow starts right where Eternal Curseleft off and it was so good. The story was so well-written, there were so many good plot twists and the book was really fast paced. The Age of Vampire series is just such a good vampire series and I cannot get enough of it. This novel was addicting, I read it in one sitting. I don’t know what more I can say about this heart-stopping series and amazing characters.

Just like in all the other books in the series, we read in Callie, Montana, Magnar and Erik’s perspective. I’m glad that we have a few chapters in Magnar and Erik’s perspective because we get to know bits and pieces from their past. I also love reading in Callie and Montana’s perspective because they’re both so different.

The story is nonstop action as the two remaining slayers of the old world battle against the vampires and the vampires continue to try to find a way to break their curse.

“I have lived a life as a slave. I have escaped that life as I promised my father I would. I have been one half of a whole to my beloved twin. I have loved Erik as a monster. And I have loved him as a man. So I have been free, I have had a place in this world and I have known the deepest kind of love my heart ever had to offer. What have you done with you eternal existence, Andvari?”

Callie and Montana are torn apart fighting to reunite, and then their paths collide only to leave Montana and Erik clawing to get back to one another afraid to accept the painful choice of family or each other as a mutually exclusive. As a thousand-year feud comes to a head in this book we get tons of action and I was continually finding myself holding my breath but the bonds of sisterhood are stronger than the gods deigned to realize and Callie and Montana might not only prove to be the answer to the vampire curse but they at last know who the real enemy is – not the slayers or the vampires, but the gods who use them as toys.

“I’m caught between two powerful enemies in an ancient war. And I love people on both sides”

Hands down this series is getting better and better with each book. This whole story-line is so unique, and the creativity behind the characters and the plot is just great! That’s why I’ve really been loving Caroline’s books, they’re so different and unique, she is an author to look out for! I’ve never read anything from Susanne, other than this series so far, but I’m looking forward to more from her.

This series is something to look out for… SERIOUSLY. If you love vampire stories with amazing back stories and characters that are fleshed out, strong females, slow burning love stories that truly add to the story, action, twists and turns, then this series is for you. It literally has it all. I’m currently reading book 5, Eternal Night AND OOOOOH MY it’s good! I highly recommend this series!

Can Callie make it to New York before all hope is lost? And will Montana be able to tear herself away from her fiancee before the wedding, even though she’s captivated by him?

~Review~

*a copy was provided by the author*

“Warrior born and monster made… Moon Child walks the path of salvation. Erik Belvedere walks the same path. A monster must be made, Julius Elioson. It is time.”

OMGGGGG! I don’t even know where to start.

Eternal Curse is the third book in the Age of Vampires series and continues the story of Montana and Callie.

Eternal Curse starts right where Eternal Shade left off and it was so good. The ending was explosive.

Just like in Eternal Shade, we read in Callie, Montana, Magnar and Erik’s perspective.

“I don’t want you to love me back. I want you to despise me. To do what you do best, Rebel, and goddamn rebel. Don’t be mine. Don’t ever be mine. Because if you are, you will burn up in this fire that lives in me and I will never forgive myself for it.”

Hands down this series is getting better and better with each book. I love the chapters alternating between the sisters and Magnar and Erik. We learn more back story with both. The explosive climax was devastating and I felt like screaming towards the end. The stakes have never been higher.

That cliff-hangar, got me so shook. I’m sooo looking forward to starting book 4, Eternal Vow tonight. I WANT MORE!!! haha I highly recommend it!
