Genre: Contemporary Romance 18+

Synopsis:

Zoe Granger picked up her first guitar the day her heart was smashed into a billion pieces. It was a way to keep her mind off her inevitable downward spiral, but music soon became her escape. She’s been burned too many times to tell and is just happy to coast through life, never putting herself out there. That’s until her best friend Dee suggests they start a band and suddenly she finds herself not just a part of it, but fronting the whole outfit.

They call themselves The Devil’s Tattoo and when they release their debut EP, it rockets to the top of the charts and it’s like an overnight fairytale. Contracts, photo shoots, royalties and interviews are heaped onto the shy Zoe and it’s like she’s finally found her place. Then comes the phone call that changes everything. They’ve been asked to co-headline a tour with one of the hottest bands of the moment, The Stabs and Zoe will never be the same again.

Will Strickland is one fourth of the hottest indie rock band to ever grace the airwaves. He’s the bass player in The Stabs, hot as hell and could have his pick of any girl that flings herself at him. But he’s only got eyes for Zoe and she has no idea why he’d bother. She’s got one hell of a trust issue and an attitude to boot and Will seems to be the one who wants to tame her, but is he game enough?

The Devil’s Tattoo and The Stabs go on the road and it’s either going to be a highway to hell or a stairway to heaven. Only time will tell who will come out on top and Zoe’s determined to do it without getting her heart broken… again.

If only she weren’t afraid of becoming the monster her father was.

Review:
I am absolutely in love with this series so far!!
Having read and loved Graceling, Fire by Kristin Cashore had a lot to live up to. I should have known that it would exceed my expectations and then some, quite possibly trumping its predecessor.
Fire is the last remaining human monster living in a war torn kingdom called the Dells. Once filled with beauty and wealth, the Dells have fallen into ruin by the hands of her monster father, Cansrel and his human conduit, King Nax. Though both have been dead for several years, the kingdom remains in a vulnerable state, as neighboring kings are attempting to conquer the lands and steal the crown from young King Nash and his commander brother, Brigan.Fire has the ability to read and control minds; but, due to her fear of becoming the monster her father was, she has spent years denying her power and she has attempted to disguise who she really is to protect both herself and those around her. When Fire is attacked by a mindless poacher, she  travels to Queen Roen in search of answers and aid, but a fateful meeting puts her in the direct path of the very two people she has tried her best to avoid, Nash and Brigan. Knowing all the power Fire posses and the potential that power could have in saving his kingdom, Nash calls on her to use her power for the greater good. But when does power become destructive? And who can tell when the lines have become blurred? What follows is a beautiful story about embracing who you are and conquering your fears.

I found Fire’s world to be well drawn, expertly woven and colorfully written. Each character is a delicious shade of gray, possessing both light and dark tendencies; much like we do in life and Cashore does a remarkable job of creating a realistic royal family in a fantastical setting. Fire was an extraordinarily heroine that I found very relatable in spite of her monster nature. A story of love and loss, hope and fear, forgiveness and passion, Fire provides a wondrous journey through a magical land that you won’t soon forget.

Wicked: Resurrection (Wicked #5) by Nancy Holder and Debbie Viguié

Wicked: Resurrection (Wicked, #5)

Wicked: Resurrection (Wicked #5)

Paperback
402 pages
Published July 7th 2009 by Simon Pulse (first published June 30th 2009)
ISBN 1416972277 (ISBN13: 9781416972273)
RATING: 5/5
Description:
Who is Alex Carruthers? That is the question fans of the Wicked series have been asking since the seemingly final book, “Spellbound,” left readers on the edge of their seats. But now, the true and final conclusion offers a heart-stopping, magical adventure about witches, destiny, and the beyond.
Review:
Ever since I started Wicked a couple of days ago, I’ve been a fan of this series. It may not be every one’s cup of tea, and the magic in these books are nothing like Harry Potter, quiet the opposite in fact, filled with darkness and evil, and you never quiet know which side everyone is on….But that’s one of the things I enjoy so much about this series. And Wicked: Resurrection was anything but a disappoint, a fitting conclusion to the series. After having the last two books leaving you hanging, wanting more, Holder and Viguie finally managed to wrap it all up nicely, leaving the reader satisfied. It may not have the traditional HEA (happily ever after), but this HEA matches the story and characters, and that’s all that really matters, right?

I don’t wish to give out any spoilers, from any of the three books, so I won’t go into deep details. However, I will say that Resurrection manages to keep you guessing until the end, throwing out new twists and characters just when you think you’ve managed to figure it all out.

Darkness and corruption is zeroing in on Amanda, Nicole and Holly, but with the right knowledge and by working together, only they (and Owen) can turn back the malicious Merlin from destroying the world and killing them. Yes, it may sound like ‘just another save-the-world’ kind of book, but if you read the series, starting with book one (very important for understanding and enjoying the series completely!), you’ll soon find out that it’s nothing like what you’d expect.

And to top it all off, besides the demons and magic and darkness, oh my!, Wicked: Resurrection has a nice dose of romance in it as well, between three separate couples. They may not have the perfect connection, and they all go through some really hard times, what with having ghosts from the past possess them and what not, but in the end, they stay together. And to me, that’s what makes a romance more believable– face it, none of us will ever have a relationship that doesn’t have a few problems along the way, speed bumps that make us wonder ‘Is it even worth it?’. But in the end, if you can survive the trip, the conclusion is well worth it.

5 STARS! Wicked: Resurrection is a stunning finale to a delicious fantasy series. I’ll definitely be recommending this to friends and family, and anyone else whom I think would enjoy the darker elements in the book.
