Letting Go of Gravity by Meg Leder

Hardcover, 432 pages

Genre: YA, Contemporary

Expected publication: July 17th 2018 by Simon Pulse

~Synopsis~

Twins Parker and Charlie are polar opposites.

Where Charlie is fearless, Parker is careful.

Charlie is confident while Parker aims to please.

Charlie is outgoing and outspoken; Parker is introverted and reserved.

And of course, there’s the one other major difference: Charlie got leukemia. Parker didn’t.

But now that Charlie is officially in remission, life couldn’t be going better for Parker. She’s landed a prestigious summer internship at the hospital and is headed to Harvard in the fall to study pediatric oncology—which is why the anxiety she’s felt since her Harvard acceptance is so unsettling. And it doesn’t help that her relationship with Charlie has been on the rocks since his diagnosis.

Enter Finn, a boy who’s been leaving strange graffiti messages all over town. Parker can’t stop thinking about those messages, or about Finn, who makes her feel free for the first time: free to doubt, free to make mistakes, and free to confront the truth that Parker has been hiding from for a long time.

That she keeps trying to save Charlie, when the person who really needs saving is herself.

~Excerpt~

[Note: Vironica Mason is her real name; Wendy is her White Room name.]

“Stand for me, Wendy,” he commanded. Her sundress dropped to the ground and Asher took in the shape and delicate curves of her body as she stood before him, completely bare except for her long double strand of pearls. “My God, you are beautiful.”

Vironica stepped out of her sunress and kicked it gently to the side. She ran her hands down her chest, over her pert breasts, and to her stomach. It was slightly curved from the birth of her daughter, but she was trim, fit for her age. Her legs were long, and made to look longer in her high-heeled wedge sandals with complicated straps running up her taut calf muscles.

“Dear God, please leave those on,” Asher said, pulling her close. “Those, the pearls, and that fucking sexy braid are going to give way to many fantasies long after today,” he growled.

Her lips curved into a knowing smile. “A woman has to have a secret weapon or two,” she murmured. “But one of us is overdressed,” she said, wetting her mouth with her soft pink tongue as it slid over her full lips.

She tugged at Asher’s baby blue tie, loosening it and sliding it out from under the starched white collar of his button-up shirt. “Don’t you look adorable in your derby finest,” she said, eyeing his frame appreciatively. “You come from good stock.”

She smoothed her fingers up and down his biceps after she dropped his tie to the sofa. He leaned over to pick it up. “Not so fast, Wendy. I have something in mind for this.”

She rubbed her naked body against him and shivered. “Tell me what you want to do with it,” she whispered before finding his mouth. She bit playfully at his lower lip, her hands trailing up the hard muscles that lay beneath his crisp white dress shirt.

He grabbed both of her wrists and held them in one of his large hands. “First,” he said slowly, wrapping the tie around her wrists and securing them, “I am going to tie this so your hands are bound.” He yanked the tie to tighten the knot he’d formed. Her wrists weren’t going anywhere. “Then, I’m going to pick you up, bring you to the bed, and have my dirty way with you. Do you understand me, Mrs. Mason?”

The utter lack of expectations and responsibilities that come with being last in the line of succession. ~Excerpt~

“I’ll only be here a little while longer, Ollie,” I manage in between breaths. “Then everything can go back to the way it was. Like I never returned.”

The lines in his forehead deepen. “You think that’s what I want? To go back? Tell me your life has been better since you left,” he challenges, raising an eyebrow.

I place my hand against his chest and attempt to push him out of my way, but he doesn’t budge. Not even an inch. Instead, he places a hand against my cheek. I inhale sharply, caught off guard by the sudden gentleness of the action. “You tell me right now that since leaving here your life has been better, that you’re happy, and I’ll walk out of this greenhouse. I’ll pretend that seeing you here doesn’t drive me wild. I’ll ignore all the things my body wants to do to yours. I’ll forget the fact that you leaving without a goodbye wrecked me.”

I open my mouth to argue, but he cuts me off. “You wrecked me, Ryans,” he reiterates, his voice desperate.

I prepare to tell him that I’m happier. That life has been easier without being caught between him and Aiden. That I enjoy not having to worry the press is lurking around every corner. That I prefer being a normal girl. That the day we shared together was just that—a day. It didn’t mean anything. It didn’t define me.

But the words refuse to come out of my mouth. Instead, a small gasp breaks free, and I know that if I don’t bolt soon, my resolve will shatter. Ollie’s hand slowly trails down my cheek and across the length of my neck, stopping on the delicate skin above my collarbone. My breathing picks up.

Tell him to stop, Alexandra.

He tugs at the collar of my jersey, bringing my face dangerously close to his. I bite down hard on my bottom lip. Ollie’s eyes travel down to my lips. My body gravitates toward his till it’s nearly pressing against the length of him.

When did it become this? This need? Because need is coursing through me like wildfire.

“You said it, Ryans. You won,” he reminds me, his voice all throaty and hoarse and incredibly sexy. “You want me to spend the rest of your time here ignoring all that’s left unanswered between us? Say it. If you desire to go back to that emptiness, that life that you seem so anxious to return to, I won’t stop you. Just say it’s what you want. ’Cause I can’t stand the indecision anymore, the what-ifs. I’ve lived three years of that. Wondering what could have happened if things had been different. ”

Daisy by Gemma Weir

(Archer’s Creek #2)

Publication date: April 15th 2018

Genres: Adult, Contemporary, Romance

Daisy.

They say eyes are the windows to the soul. I thought that was bullshit until I saw hers. Huge doe eyes that should have sparkled with happiness and laughter were dead and lifeless. That was the moment that changed everything. Two random meetings, nine emails, four days and a broken Angel that changed my entire world.

Angel.

Such a silly name for a beautiful boy. Daisy is the saviour I crave and the safety I haven’t felt in years. My world is spinning out of control but he’s the salvation that can keep me alive — if I’ll let him. Two random meetings, nine emails, four days and a broken boy that brought me back to life.

~Excerpt~

I don’t know where I’m running too. It doesn’t matter. Anywhere is better than at home, with that monster. I hurry around a corner just off Main Street and run straight into someone.

I bounce off a hard chest and land on my butt on the sidewalk. Disoriented, I sit on the floor with my hair falling over my eyes and hiding my face. Gentle fingers part my hair, tucking the strands behind my ears. I lift my eyes and my breath catches. It’s him.

“Hello, Angel,” Daisy says.

~Excerpt~

“What the hell?”

Todd sat up straighter in his chair. “Hey, man.”

“Are you on a date?” Ren’s words seethed out. He completely ignored Todd, his eyes never strayed from her.

His cheeks were pink, either from anger or alcohol, or both. His lips pulled into a tight line, but his bloodshot eyes couldn’t hide his hurt. She’d done that to him even after he’d given her exactly what she asked for-time. Her chest tightened and a lump in her throat threatened to choke her.

“Yes, we are. Why does it matter to you?” Todd stood and crossed his arms over his chest in that way men do when they believe they’re being challenged.

Why did men get so barbaric? What would he do? Fight?

Stacey rose. Ren was drunk and clearly trying to ruffle Todd’s feathers, which was working. He stepped closer, straightening his posture, which broadened his shoulders.

“Don’t, Ren.” She held up her hand.

Todd shifted and tensed, pulling her closer with an arm around her waist.

A growl ripped from Ren. His hands balled up at his sides. He wasn’t a fighter. She knew this, but his demeanor and the look in his eyes tested that belief.

“Don’t what? Don’t ask you about your date?” His gaze shifted from her to Todd. He scoffed and rolled his eyes.

“Do you have a problem?” Todd asked.

“I do. You’ve got your arm around my girl and it’s pissing me off.” If looks could kill, Todd would have fallen over dead.

“Your girl?” Todd glanced at Stacey, eyes questioning. The terminology had caught her off guard as well. Even though she knew he wanted to be with her, he’d never referred to her in the possessive sense. It warmed her insides being claimed as his. Made her dizzy and giddy and all of those girly feelings one has when in love. “We’re on a date. You must be confused.”

Ren shook his head. “Nah. I’m not confused.”

“Ren, you’re drunk.” She’d never seen him act this way. She’d seen him drunk. On more than one occasion, she’d been the person he’d contacted to pick him and his buddies up from a party or club, not wanting to drive home under the influence or worry his parents. But she’d never seen him so angry, so ready for a fight.

“Not drunk enough.” His voice wavered, and his words broke her. He was hurt. She knew that. He wasn’t used to rejection. God, why should he be? He was fantastic. Fantastic to look at, fantastic in bed. And had a big heart. She hated being the one to break it.

She leaned close to Todd so he could hear her over the noise. “I’ll be back in a few minutes.” He squeezed her, and Ren rumbled. She could all but see the angry vibrations radiating off him.

“Are you sure?” Concerned etched his features. “We could leave.”

“I’m sure. I’ll just be a few minutes.” She broke away from his hold and stepped toward Ren. “Can we talk in private?”

She walked toward the doorway leading to a sandy area outside. Though she couldn’t hear him following, she felt him-his towering presence, the heat he emanated.

Darkness enveloped her as she stepped outside. The moon hung low in the sky, not offering much light and neither did the sole string of twinkle lights hanging overhead. Potted palm trees lined the private area where they stood eyeing each other.

“I’m sorry.” The lump in her throat made her sound like a frog. She leaned her back against the rickety tin building and huffed out a breath. The salty air singed her nostrils and the humidity combined with her nerves dampened her skin.

“For what?” He stood a few feet in front of her, his eyes stormy with raw emotion. He scrubbed a hand through his short hair in frustration before balling both hands into fists again.

“I didn’t know you’d be here.”

Goodreads | Amazon | Barnes & Noble | Kobo

~~~
~Excerpt~
Abbey was still angry at the spectacle Luke had made of himself in front of Mrs. Antonetti and Carlo. Pulling that best man crap. He needed to give that shit a rest already.
You liked the attention though, didn’t you? Luke acting all possessive and caveman-like.
She looked away, not liking the direction her thoughts were taking. Whatever game Luke was playing, even if Cassie was right and Luke and Brenna weren’t together, Abbey wasn’t playing along. That didn’t change the fact that Luke had betrayed her. She couldn’t trust him.
Love is complicated.
What? Where did that come from? Abbey didn’t love Luke anymore. That was the alcohol talking, right? Before she could explore her thoughts a little deeper, Jake and Luke stood before them.
Luke grinned at her like he didn’t have a care in the world. “You miss me, princess?”
Yes. “Of course not. Don’t flatter yourself. Did you at least apologize to Carlo Antonetti for your childish behavior?”
Luke shrugged and waved at Amy. Amy giggled and enthusiastically waved back. “We had a good conversation. Met the head chef, took pictures with some of the staff, you know, the usual stuff. Best of all, Carlo’s son CJ had a great idea for a fundraiser we’re going to do for the children’s foundation. The Antonetti family, they’re good people. And they know how to cook!”
Despite all her misgivings and anger toward Luke, Abbey’s heart ached for him a little. Having lost his own parents at ten years old, Luke put his heart and soul into the foundation. Sometimes, she wondered if the work the foundation did for disadvantaged children meant more to him than his baseball career.
Luke reached out, took a lock of her hair, and spun it around his finger. Abbey’s heart skipped a beat and her skin warmed. How could he still have such an effect on her after all this time? And especially considering how he’d tossed their love aside ten years ago?
Luke waggled his eyebrows at her. “I think maybe you missed me a little. I don’t mind that you don’t want to admit it. I’m man enough to admit I missed you. Have for a long, long time, princess.” He leaned in closer.
Luke was going to kiss her, right there in the banquet area hallway of Cucina Antonetti’s. Abbey should have pushed him away, but she couldn’t find the will. Just one kiss wouldn’t hurt anything, right? She could be angry afterwards. It’s reboot weekend, right?
Luke was closing the distance between them and was going to kiss her when Hannah emerged from the banquet room. “All right guys, the DJ is ready to announce everyone and dinner is ready to be served.”
Abbey pulled away from Luke, startled back to reality. She hated to admit she was a tiny bit disappointed at Hannah’s timing. It was just as well. She didn’t know which way was up where Luke was concerned.
~Synopsis~
I couldn’t have scripted a more perfect night.
For one fantastic evening, at a masquerade party in the heart of Manhattan, I’m not the millionaire everyone wants a piece of. Fine—multimillionaire. But who’s counting all those commas? Not me, and not the most intriguing woman I’ve ever met, who happens to like dancing, witty banter, and hot, passionate up-against-the-wall sex as much as I do.
There’s no need for names or business cards. And that’s why I’m eager to get to know her more, since my mystery woman seems to like me for me, rather than for my huge…bank account.
Everything’s coming up aces. Until the next day when things get a little complicated. (Newsflash — a lot complicated.)
***
He’s charming, brilliant, an incredible lover, and right now I want to stab fate in the eyeballs.
I’ve had one goal I’ve been working toward, and lo and behold, my mystery man is the very person who stands between me and my dream job. A job I desperately need since my hard-knock life has nothing in common with his star-kissed one.
But it’s time to put that fairytale night behind me, and focus on learning what makes him tick. Too bad it turns out his quirks are my quirks, and his love affair with New York matches mine.
And as we spend our days together, I discover something else that feels like a cruel twist of fate — I’m falling for this naughty prince charming, and that’s not an ending I can write to our story.
