Rule (Marked Men,#1) by Jay Crownover

#1:

“Shaw is Shaw. She’s so freaking beautiful it hurts to look at her sometimes, but she doesn’t even know it. She’s still untouchable because she’s always going to be richer and smarter than we are, but she doesn’t care about any of that. She’s cool, she doesn’t care that you’re just you, and honestly, Rule, any chick who can put up with the headache that is you, well I’d put a goddamn diamond on her finger”

#2:

“I think it’s genetically impossible not to be kind of in love with him when you come equipped with a vagina. It’s just something about all that angsty, moody swagger he has that makes you want to cuddle him up and make him feel better.”

~Description~

August and Ethan have been best friends since the day they met at Ethan’s seventh birthday party. And now, twelve years on, their friendship continues to grow. But after magic, fame, money and an unexplainable miracle in a car accident, August realizes maybe she wants to be more than just friends.

~Review~

Just Friends by Billy Taylor follows the story of August Bishop and Ethan Knight, who have been inseparable best friends since Ethan’s seventh birthday. But when Ethan saves her life in a car crash, she begins to wonder if maybe they could be more than just friends.  They go through a lot but they always come back to each other.

At first I didn’t know what to expect, I kept hearing/seeing quotes and pictures on Twitter, about this book and new author, so I took a chance and ordered it, because I wanted to see what all the fuss was about.

Honestly, I expected more, like A LOT more. I am a little disappointed…I did find it really hard to concentrate on the actual storyline; it was predictable, uninteresting and overall a very tedious book to read.  I honestly cannot see why it blew up on social media the way it did..

I thought the book would have been longer, more about their relationship (by this I mean, more intimate encounters between the main characters, August and Ethan), character development, and more challenges they have to face as a couple (but they weren’t really seen as an official couple throughout the whole book, which was kind of annoying), etc.

I also wish it was properly edited (grammar, paragraph& sentence structure)… hahah! Yes, I’m a total grammar Nazi~ xD

It’s just, it would have made the story so much better, if I hadn’t had to stop to re-word a sentence/add words to make it, make better sense/unnecessary sentences.

Okay, yeah, the author is British so some terminology is different/ things are said completely different from North American English. Like bathroom is loo, or high school is called college or that they say a person is called August, instead of named August, etc.

But… I don’t know… I don’t know how to feel about this book…. There was absolutely no flow in this book what so ever. The thoughts weren’t blended or merged in anyway and the events that happened were far-fetched, for happening to two people in such a short amount of time, which made the story, seem immature.

Ahhhhhhhhhh, I know it probably sounds like I totally hated it, but I did like it, kind of. It just needs some major improvements…

Putting all the negativity aside, the ending was REALLY FREAKING ADORABLE. The ending was so cute it was almost worth reading the rest of the book…. xD

I don’t know if I’d actually recommend it though, maybe if you were really, truly curious about the book yourself, then I would say go for it… though I’d wait to see if it was at your local library where you could borrow it… without spending money on it…

Also! I read on Billy Taylor’s twitter, he’s writing a second book called Mutual Feelings, which is being released in March-ish… I’ll probably get it for the sake of knowing what’s next… but from reading this one, I definitely have low expectations for it…

~Excerpt~

Chapter 1-(Ela’s POV)

Sometimes I hated my life. But I was rarely surprised as I was when the figure of a strikingly handsome man materialized behind me. I watched him as he grinned crookedly and leaned against the wall behind. His piercing white eyes focused on mine in the mirror and my stomach tightened in a knot.

“Hello, Oracle of Akai.”

“Obitus,” I whispered.

What I didn’t add was the rest of his honorable titles: the destroyer, the one who was going to ruin me before bringing the end of my world. Though he was about to make a deal with the weres for Kann to stay with Karla in peace, so he was capable of some good too.

His human form was tall with wide shoulders, it made a striking pose. He was wearing a navy suit that really, really brought out the white in his eyes. They were the only outward sign of his dragon nature, those white eyes that meant he was a powerful being, one of the most powerful in the Otherworlds. One of those who’d gone extinct, pretty much, until Karla decided to use his help to save her life. I couldn’t blame her, but I didn’t like Mr. Dragon breathing down my neck, not at all. Especially since he was the sexiest man I’d ever seen, and that included models for the covers of my novels–which was saying something. I looked away from his reflection and tried to get my pulse under control.

He flashed beside me and I flinched.

“It’s a real pleasure to see you,” he muttered darkly in that chorus effect voice of his.

Shivers traveled up and down my spine, but I glared at his reflection in the mirror. “I can’t say the same.”

He tsked. “Sorry to hear that. But I promise you’ll change your mind.”

I smiled coldly and walked out of the ladies room, avoiding eye contact with him. Thinking of what the full force of those eyes could do scared the crap out of me. He didn’t follow, thank the gods. I reached the hall and my knees almost gave out. Leaning against the wall for a minute, I tried to get my pulse under control. He couldn’t change my mind, or we’d all be lost. No matter how tempting he was, I couldn’t allow myself to get caught in his snare.

Rating: 5/5 Stars

~Description~

Some things are worth waiting for…

Traveling thousands of miles from home to enter college is the only way nineteen-year-old Avery Morgansten can escape what happened at the Halloween party five years ago—an event that forever changed her life. All she needs to do is make it to her classes on time, make sure the bracelet on her left wrist stays in place, not draw any attention to herself, and maybe—please God—make a few friends, because surely that would be a nice change of pace. The one thing she didn’t need and never planned on was capturing the attention of the one guy who could shatter the precarious future she’s building for herself.

Some things are worth experiencing…

Cameron Hamilton is six feet and three inches of swoon-worthy hotness, complete with a pair of striking blue eyes and a remarkable ability to make her want things she believed were irrevocably stolen from her. She knows she needs to stay away from him, but Cam is freaking everywhere, with his charm, his witty banter, and that damn dimple that’s just so… so lickable. Getting involved with him is dangerous, but when ignoring the simmering tension that sparks whenever they are around each other becomes impossible, he brings out a side of her she never knew existed.

Some things should never be kept quiet…

But when Avery starts receiving threatening emails and phone calls forcing her to face a past she wants silenced, she’s has no other choice but to acknowledge that someone is refusing to allow her to let go of that night when everything changed. When the devastating truth comes out, will she resurface this time with one less scar? And can Cam be there to help her or will he be dragged down with her?

And some things are worth fighting for…

~Review~

WAIT FOR YOU is an emotional, heartbreaking, but definitely sweet love story! I absolutely loved it and definitely couldn’t put it down! After reading this, it only makes me want more!

WAIT FOR YOU reminded me of why I love reading romance! The author spent A LOT of time on the romance between Cam and Avery and it pays off BIG TIME. Avery is so inhibited, but Cam just has a way of getting beneath her barriers and making her smile. The way the author explores their relationship felt so genuine and real that I had no problem believing in their love.

The story is well paced with lots of steam, the author knows exactly how to build up the tension!. It’s easy to see Avery’s past but the whole story is just on the edge of it. I was surprised and overwhelmed when I finally knew all of it. Could see that Cam had a secret too but again the details were still a surprise. I liked that. And the steamy scenes between Cam and Avery!! :3

This book is so emotional and moving, and I honestly cannot express how much I LOVED it.

I definitely recommend this novel!!

Happy Reading!

Description:
Can Natalie submit to Tanner? The sex is hot – but, she doesn’t understand her own desires, anymore. Good or bad, she cannot leave the only man that can make her feel that way. Her submission affects Tanner, deeply. But, will he admit to love?

“Natalie felt the heat of desire flood her body. She wanted to tell him he couldn’t bully her, but was unable to look at him, without wanting him. If he touched her, she wouldn’t be able to deny him. She thought of many things she could say. Instead, she just stood there, looking into his blue eyes, and feeling her body melt.”

Naked Submission, 2nd novella in the Touched By You series, is a romantic tale that takes place in Milan, Italy. The sex scenes are graphic – includes light bdsm. The author was inspired by the endearing romance in the Twilight series. And the sexual enlightenment, and sweet romance, in the Fifty Shades Of Grey series. Touched By You is a unique love story, with full character development, and added intrigue from the billionaire’s life, that will make this a read that’s hard to put down.

Review:
**A copy was provided by the author**

Omfg! Loved this book!!

Naked Submission is the second novella in this series. It’s well written, compelling, and definitely edgier than the first novella!

Naked Submission picks up where Dark Desire left off. We meet Tanner’s ex and his mother and find out more of his back story; secrets and past relationships are revealed!! 😀

I absolutely LOVE this story and these characters! I couldn’t put it down! I wish it was longer! I can’t wait to read the rest of the series!

Happy Reading!

Dark Desire (Touched By You, #1)

Kindle Edition, 1 edition , 108 pages

Published February 6th 2013 by Emily Jane Trent

Rating:4.5/5 Stars

~Description~

Natalie Baker, a girl from rural America, has an unforgettable sexual encounter with billionaire, Tanner Clarke. The passion between them ignites a flame that can’t be put out. She discovers her dark desire – her life will never be the same.

“There was something in his face. She couldn’t think the thought she grasped for. His skin was pale, and she got the impression he wasn’t out in the sun much. His baby blue eyes were so bright, they appeared luminous. And his dark brown hair shimmered with auburn highlights, here under the blaring brightness of the lobby. He was just beautiful. She’d never known a man could be beautiful, but he definitely was.”

Dark Desire, 1st novella in the Touched By You series, is a romantic tale that takes place in New York. The sex scenes are graphic – includes light BDSM. The author was inspired by the endearing romance in the Twilight series. And the sexual enlightenment, and sweet romance, in the Fifty Shades Of Grey series. Touched By You is a unique love story, with full character development, and added intrigue from the billionaire’s life, that will make each book in the series hard to put down.

~Review~

**A copy was provided by the author**

Natalie skips her prom and goes to a concert with her friends instead
where she meets Tanner. After a sensual exchange, Tanner disappears. This left her heartbroken, and she cannot move past what they shared, she continues to relive their brief encounter.

Years later Natalie when she begins to live her dream of attending the New York Fashion Institute, she and Tanner cross paths once more and not by accident.

Dark Desire is the 1st novella in the Touched By You series. It’s a well written; the author wasted no time in setting the love story up between Natalie and Tanner. I found that it was very similar to the Fifty Shades of Grey series. It was a short, hot and steamy story.

Overall, I loved it; there was great character development, easy to follow and captivating. Though it was WAY too short!! But, I definitely couldn’t put it down! I would recommend it to anyone who has read and loved the Fifty Shades Trilogy.

Happy Reading!
