IVY

I pushed open the front door, tossed my keys onto the entryway table and flicked on a light switch.

“Where were you?”

I let out a shrill scream and whipped around, even though I immediately recognized his smooth deep voice. Rhys sat on a bench along the opposite wall leaning back, legs apart and spread, with his muscular arms crossed in front of his chest. My green eyes locked with his blue ones, but his bare chest had my gaze slowly creeping below his neckline. My eyes travelled downwards to see tattooed forearms, a pair of gray sweat pants hanging loosely around his hips, and finally his bare feet.

I pressed my palms down on the table behind me to keep from melting to the floor. “What the hell are you still doing here?” I sputtered.

An amused grin curled on his lips, but he didn’t budge as if he were inviting me to straddle his open legs. “Where were you?” he repeated.

“Why are you sitting here in the dark?” I shot back, even though my voice was shaky.

“Do you always answer a question with a question?” He stroked the five o’clock shadow grown in around his lips with his thumb and index finger. He slouched down further on the bench like he was getting comfy.

“No, not always.” I said, finally able to gain my composure.

“Come on Ivy, don’t make me ask you again.” His smug smile made want to whip off one of Missy’s cowboy boots I was wearing and chuck it at him.

He slowly uncrossed his arms and pressed his palms flat against the bench beneath him on either side of long muscular legs. He leaned forward and tilted his head to the side with a cocky grin. “Your shift must have ended at least three hours ago.”

I just stood still welling up with irritation. What the hell was he still doing here? He bit down on his bottom lip and tucked his shoulder length hair behind his ears. Even though he looked scruffy and older, he still had the same boyish good looks I remembered falling in love with. His new appearance suited him better than his once clean-shaven face hidden under a baseball cap.

“It’s none of your business.” I pulled off my boots in case I really did need them for ammo.

“When my brother’s girlfriend gets dropped off by Charlie three hours after her shift ended, I think it’s more than my business. Especially when she stumbles in wearing the world’s shortest skirt.” Rhys’s gaze trailed up my legs as he rose to his feet. He was much taller than I remembered, and I had to tilt my chin upwards to meet his stare.

“I was at an employee bonfire behind the bunkhouse. I wanted to leave, so Charlie offered to drive me to the ranch. If I would’ve known you were still here, I would’ve rather slept in a dumpster than be graced with your presence.” I spun around to separate myself from his intense stare and headed off in the direction of the guest bedroom.

Who the hell did Rhys Wyatt think he was talking to me like that?

Rhys’s hand closed around my elbow, and my body trembled at his touch. I wasn’t expecting every tiny hair to stand on edge when his warm fingers melted into my skin but they did.

“No one knows I’m back in Moose Creek, and I’d like to keep it that way… for now.” Rhys’s voice lowered to a murmur. He gently tugged my backside against his hard groin and whispered in my ear. “Trust me. I don’t want to be here anymore than I want your little body floating around and bumping into me every which way I turn. When you walked in on me last night -” He stopped from continuing his sentence and paused. He let out a warm tense breath and growled against my ear. “This situation isn’t ideal for either of us. So keep your distance and don’t you dare tell anyone I’m back.”

I sucked a sharp breath. It felt like my knees were about to buckle. How could I let my body react to him like this?

“What are you hiding from?” I asked through clenched teeth.

Rhys released my elbow from his death grip. “I’m not hiding.”

I slowly turned around and watched his smooth muscular back arch as he ran both his hands through his brown hair. His chest was so defined that I wanted to reach out and trace my fingers around his prefect pecks. His eyes fell closed and he let out an angry noise from his throat.

“I’m not leaving, Ivy. I’m staying in Moose Creek for the summer and I’m living at the ranch. I’d really appreciate you keeping my presence to yourself right now. That means not telling Blaine either. I don’t need anyone asking questions, especially not Blaine.” When his eyes finally opened they softened. Rhys slowly moved his bare feet across the hardwood floors and I stood frozen in place, mesmerized by his tight body stalking in my direction. He stopped inches in front of me and ran a hand through his thick dark hair.

Do you understand?” he asked.

I nodded. “Understood.”

“Thank you.”

I stood speechless for a moment until he lifted his eyes to meet mine. I expected them to be filled with a proud and pompous smile, but there was something vulnerable in them that I had never seen in him before. His chest rose up and down and his lips stayed slightly parted.

“Goodnight Ivy,” he whispered and disappeared down the hallway.

Blog Tour ~ Looking for Dei by David A. Willson: Excerpt + Giveaway

Looking for Dei by David A. Willson

Publication date: March 23rd 2018

Genres: Fantasy, Young Adult

Fifteen-year-old Nara Dall has never liked secrets. Yet it seems that her life has been filled with them, from the ugly scar on her back to the strange powers she possesses. Her mysterious father refuses to say anything about her origins, and soon, she and her best friend must attend the announcement ceremony, in which youths are tested for a magical gift.

A gifted youth has not been announced in the poor village of Dimmitt for decades. When Nara uncovers the reason, she uses her own powers to make things right. The decision sets her on a path of danger, discovery, and a search for the divine. In the process, she learns the truth about herself and uncovers the biggest secret of all: the power of broken people.

~~~
~Excerpt~
Nara lay on her cot pretending to sleep, her thoughts lingering on Bylo’s secrecy. Anger welled up at what seemed like a betrayal—not just of her, but of the entire village. The ceppit needed power, and she would fill it tonight.
Bylo didn’t fall asleep quickly, but once he had, she made her move. The rain pit-pattered on the roof, giving her ample noise cover to steal away. Her exit out the front door was soft but still disturbed a white owl in the nearby tree. Ruffling its feathers, the bird turned its head to face her disapprovingly.
Darkness reigned, and none of the village folk were out, but she moved with caution to avoid waking any dogs that might announce her skulking. The walk to the church took longer than it should have, or maybe it just seemed that way. What she intended could not be undone, and the risk weighed heavily upon her. This was a bold move and she knew it, but felt compelled to continue. It might be the first act of her life that would make a difference. A real difference. A way to help.
Was that the only reason, or was there more? Did she want to imbue the ceppit to help other people, or was this also a way to feel some power of her own? A way to defy her destiny as the girl who must remain quiet, who could not be noticed. The girl who kept secrets.
Being announced in front of the whole village would end those secrets. Nara would be a gifted, and people would take notice of her. She would be seen as valuable. Important. Yes, she wanted that, too.
Upon arrival at the church, she found a window near the back door. She slid it open, pulled herself up over the sill, and landed inside on her bum. Holding her breath, she listened and waited, hoping Father Taylor was slumbering in his room down the hallway.
After a few moments of silence, she rose to her feet, tiptoed to Taylor’s study, and tested the door handle. Unlocked. After turning the knob, the door fell open a few inches, but the agonizing creak that came was enough to wake the dead. Fear of discovery paralyzed her, and she heard the priest grumble something in irritation from his room, bed squeaking as he shifted in his slumber. A moment later, the silence resumed. Proceeding into the room, she squeezed through the open doorway and moved quietly to the sacristy behind his desk. Just a fancy footlocker, the chest sat on the floor beneath Taylor’s threadbare, stained ceremonial robes that hung on a wall peg above. It bore a padlock.
Curse it! What now?
Goodreads | Amazon | Barnes & Noble | Kobo
~~~

~Excerpt~

Realization hit Damien as to who he was staring down. The same dark god that had challenged him stood in Lilith’s form. Damien’s heart inside his chest burned as he thought about Kain and all he’d done for him. Jill. Dad…Rob…Gabriel…Holt…Chelsea.

“Looks like it’s just you and me, Damien. You can surrender and die in peace or you can fight and die anyway. Your choice.”

Save him. Luna’s voice inside of Damien’s mind drew his attention. Save him. I beg of you. Please.

Damien’s body became surrounded with a radiant light so bright it forced Lilith step back. Her wing covered her face. He braced himself on his front legs, roaring at the monster in front of him responsible for taking so much.

The light became so intense not even the lycans could stare at it.

When it finally faded, Damien stood in his true lycan form. His white fur blew in the wind like mist at the tip of his stiffened ears to the end of his tail. The dark markings of his wolf form only seen on the tips of his ears, feet and tail. The fur on the back of his neck was thicker, almost resembling a mane.

“By the gods, he looks like…” Lune stood in awe.

“Tenebris.” Gabriel’s finished, his voice nothing but a whisper.

Stoker used the opportunity to sneak off, nursing the wound on his arm inflicted by Gabriel when he shifted into his full lycan form.

The vampires hissed at the light rising from the east, trying to flee towards the waning night. They had fallen right into Damien’s plan and were intercepted. Howls and snarls joined dying screams as the vampires were overwhelmed.

“What trickery is this?!” Lilith’s fangs spat as she tried to speak.

Damien ignored her, seeing the fear in her eyes as he made his way over to Kain on the ground.

The alpha was so weak he couldn’t retain his shifted form.

“Kain.” Damien’s voice was a comfortable echo. Warm and reassuring. “Alex. Can you hear me?”

Kain opened his eyes, slightly jumping. “Tenebris?”

Damien shook his head. “No. It’s me.”

“Damien. How?”

Damien took Kain’s jacket he was always wearing around his waist and covered his friend with it. “Stay here. Don’t move and don’t die.”

He stood back up and went to face Lilith. The lycans in his way stepped aside, their heads bowed. “This ends here, Lilith. You won’t hurt anyone else.”

~Review~

The Fireproof Girl is the story of Sophie Shield and Cole Hunter. Sophie, is a CIA agent and an excellent code breaker, who lives in Washington DC with her boyfriend Zachary. One day she reads in the newspaper that, Cole, another homeless child, adopted by same foster parents as hers, who she has not met in years, is dead. She decides go back to California where, Cole lived to find out who his murderer is. Through Sophie’s perspective we get to see her on a journey of searching for clues surrounding Cole’s death and who shot him. I really liked the dual perspectives between Sophie and Cole. Sophie’s side of the story was told in present day (2016) while Cole’s side dealt with their past (2003) and how it’s has contributed to their present. Both were broken children who grew up to be broken adults. In the beginning you know that Sophie has a problem with commitment and you slowly find out why. I felt the author did a pretty good job of weaving the backstory for both Sophie/Scarlett and Cole.

The story was compelling, interesting, disturbing, intense and I loved it. The plot was interesting it was full of twists. You don’t really know what is going on. The story will keep you guessing. It’s really fun to follow Sophie through the past and present with unexpected events unfolding.

If you like mystery, suspense and a bit of romance. This is the book for you. I don’t usually read mystery type books, but I’m can’t wait to get my hands on the rest of the series.  I highly recommend it.

~Excerpt~

[Note: Vironica Mason is her real name; Wendy is her White Room name.]

“Stand for me, Wendy,” he commanded. Her sundress dropped to the ground and Asher took in the shape and delicate curves of her body as she stood before him, completely bare except for her long double strand of pearls. “My God, you are beautiful.”

Vironica stepped out of her sunress and kicked it gently to the side. She ran her hands down her chest, over her pert breasts, and to her stomach. It was slightly curved from the birth of her daughter, but she was trim, fit for her age. Her legs were long, and made to look longer in her high-heeled wedge sandals with complicated straps running up her taut calf muscles.

“Dear God, please leave those on,” Asher said, pulling her close. “Those, the pearls, and that fucking sexy braid are going to give way to many fantasies long after today,” he growled.

Her lips curved into a knowing smile. “A woman has to have a secret weapon or two,” she murmured. “But one of us is overdressed,” she said, wetting her mouth with her soft pink tongue as it slid over her full lips.

She tugged at Asher’s baby blue tie, loosening it and sliding it out from under the starched white collar of his button-up shirt. “Don’t you look adorable in your derby finest,” she said, eyeing his frame appreciatively. “You come from good stock.”

She smoothed her fingers up and down his biceps after she dropped his tie to the sofa. He leaned over to pick it up. “Not so fast, Wendy. I have something in mind for this.”

She rubbed her naked body against him and shivered. “Tell me what you want to do with it,” she whispered before finding his mouth. She bit playfully at his lower lip, her hands trailing up the hard muscles that lay beneath his crisp white dress shirt.

He grabbed both of her wrists and held them in one of his large hands. “First,” he said slowly, wrapping the tie around her wrists and securing them, “I am going to tie this so your hands are bound.” He yanked the tie to tighten the knot he’d formed. Her wrists weren’t going anywhere. “Then, I’m going to pick you up, bring you to the bed, and have my dirty way with you. Do you understand me, Mrs. Mason?”

Book Blitz ~ The Promotion: A Reverse Harem Novel by Mika Lane: Excerpt + Giveaway!

~~~
The Promotion: A Reverse Harem Novel by Mika Lane
Publication date: April 18th 2018
Genres: Adult, Romance
You know that saying “I get by with a little help from my friends?”
Well, that’s not me.
I don’t take help. Not from anyone. At least I didn’t, until I was backed into a corner. With no choice.
And when help came my way in the form of several handsome guys, I wasn’t sure if my situation had gone from bad to worse.
Or if it was just what I needed—and what I’d actually needed all along.
Goodreads | Pre-order(Amazon)
~~~

~Excerpt~

Two pair of lips met either side of my neck, but I squirmed away from their temptation just as a hand slithered over my silk-covered ass and pinched me.

But my anxiety slipped out the door the moment I saw him. He entered the coffee shop, a tall drink of water with an expensive, perfectly fitting suit. He turned heads as he moved like a strong, graceful athlete. What a catch he was. Why had it taken me so long to realize that?

I came to, tucked under a down comforter. For a quick moment I wasn’t sure where I was, but the moonlight coming in the bedroom windows told me I wasn’t at home. I looked around, my heart startled into a panicky rush.

And while I was hyperaware that I was about to fuck Brade, it was really as though I were making love to each guy in the room.

And, there was Von, who so expertly tormented me with his decadent attentions. I pushed my hips back toward him to give more of myself, and he growled his appreciation. His thumbs opened me and next thing I knew, his tongue was buried to the hilt. If my mouth hadn’t been full of Cato’s cock, I would have screamed loudly enough for the neighbors and the people in the building next door to hear, too.

Two hands came from behind to grasp my breasts, and those in front of me pulled me closer by grabbing the cheeks of my ass. I was sandwiched nice and tight between two hot as hell men. While the mouth of one bruised my lips, those of the other ravaged my neck. I figured I’d be covered with marks the next day, but that’s what cover-up was for, right?

Now behind me, he began massaging the most amazing-smelling shampoo into my hair. He lathered it up on my scalp like a pro, and somehow knew to let just a little of it dribble down to the long ends. Maybe he’d washed some other woman’s hair in his past? I didn’t know, and I certainly didn’t care.

“I’ve wanted to touch you since the first day I met you. Actually, I wanted to do more than that. A lot more,” he whispered.

He walked up behind me, his hands falling on my shoulders. He pushed aside my hair, his lips traveling down my neck. His touch was soft but strong at the same time, leaving a trail of fire on my skin and a throbbing between my legs. I had to feel his lips again on mine, and spun around to face him.

I leaned toward him and he tilted back for a split second, not something a girl wants to see when she’s trying to be gutsy. While I tried to figure out what to do, he must have screwed up his own courage, because the next moment I was enjoying his mouth on my lips.

At first, his kiss was soft, but the second I invited him in with my parted lips, he pressed against mine with a passion that took my breath away. Like he was dying of thirst and I was his glass of water.

“They have no idea we’re standing right here. They have no idea how turned on you are. And they have no idea I’m about to unzip the back of your dress.”

“If you really want to move up in the firm…”

She waited for me to respond, so I nodded furiously.

“You need to have a husband.”
