~Description~

SOMETIMES THE ONE WHO LOVES YOU IS THE ONE WHO HURTS YOU THE MOST

Lily hasn’t always had it easy, but that’s never stopped her from working hard for the life she wants. She’s come a long way from the small town in Maine where she grew up – she graduated from college, moved to Boston, and started her own business. So when she feels a spark with a gorgeous neurosurgeon named Ryle Kincaid, everything in Lily’s life suddenly seems almost too good to be true.

Ryle is assertive, stubborn, and maybe even a little arrogant. He’s also sensitive, brilliant, and has a total soft spot for Lily, but Ryle’s complete aversion to relationships is disturbing.

As questions about her new relationship overwhelm her, so do thoughts of Atlas Corrigan – her first love and a link to the past she left behind. He was her kindred spirit, her protector. When Atlas suddenly reappears, everything Lily has built with Ryle is threatened.

With this bold and deeply personal novel, Colleen Hoover delivers a heart-wrenching story that breaks exciting new ground for her as a writer. It Ends With Us is an unforgettable tale of love that comes at the ultimate price.

This book contains graphic scenes and very sensitive subject matter.

~Review~

Wow this book. What an emotional journey. This was one of the hardest and most raw books I’ve ever read. It was so real and riveting. I couldn’t get enough of it. I couldn’t stop reading yet I didn’t want to keep reading. Such a different experience. Reading a Colleen Hoover book is like going through an eye opening journey and this one was no different and was one of the hardest but most worthwhile to battle through. This is an extremely powerful story and it’s not what most people will be expecting. It gets its power from the singular first person narrative and we experience everything through Lily’s eyes. When she falls in love, we fall in love; when her heart is broken, our heart is broken; when she gets it all wrong, so do we.

I cannot stress how important and damn smart this book is. There is no black and white characterization – it’s much deeper and more complex than that, and therefore, far more emotional. It peels back the layers of characters and relationships to do something that so many other authors have tried and failed to do – to make you understand a situation that for most people makes no sense. It’s very sad, painful and exceptionally honest. My heart hurt while reading it and I almost cried several times.

The way that Colleen Hoover writes puts you right in the situation that Lily is in head first and makes you fall in love with both Ryle and Atlas. And it’s so twisted because of the kind of guy one of them turns out to be. In between this passionate love story that’s going on with Ryle and Lily we get these sweet innocent flashbacks of a life with a sixteen year old Lily and Atlas. Atlas who is this homeless boy who finds hope and a home in Lily. And Lily who is living a nightmare of home life and seeks comfort in him. Those stories were my favorite.

So perfect! I loved these characters, loved their history and their flaws and strengths. And the ending…..I have no words. Beautiful and bittersweet in the same breath. This novel is why CoHo is my favorite author. She tells stories in such a way that it makes you fell every emotion.  I highly recommend it!

Elemental Lies by Elle Middaugh

(The Essential Elements, #2)

Publication date: July 24th 2017

Genres: Fantasy, Young Adult

Valerie Moore is an Elemental, a person who commands one of the classical elements of wind, water, fire, or earth. She’s special, though. She controls two—fire and water—though sometimes it seems like they control her.

After the accidental exposure of Elementals to humanity, Valerie finds herself—and all of her kind—struggling to attain equality. Three different groups fight to secure leadership, and with all of their hidden agendas, she doesn’t know which side to choose. The balance between peaceful cohabitation and all-out war is precarious, at best.

When a chance meeting brings Val and earth Elemental Cade Landston back together, everything changes. She realizes what she knew in the beginning—that he’s the one she wants. Her desire to win him over draws her closer to him, and his vengeful mission to hunt down her murderous grandfather brings them both closer to trouble.

From mysterious doppelgangers to reckless rescue missions, scapegoat bombings, and evolving Elemental powers, Valerie strains to keep up.

All she knows is she must stop her grandfather at all costs. To do so, she has to figure out the truth, but how can she do so when almost everyone she knows has been telling lies?

~Excerpt~

“What are you thinking?” Dad asked, knocking me back to the present.

My head shook subconsciously. “Nothing, really. Just trying to figure out all this change, trying to make sense of it, somehow.”

“It’s not easy,” he agreed. “And it’s only gonna get harder.”

I stared at him with wide doe eyes, silently pleading for some sort of direction.

“What should I do?” I asked. “Should I live my life as best I can and try to ignore the evil going on all around me? Or should I make it my life’s work to try to change that evil into good? Is it even worth it to try?”

Dad blew out a deep breath and pushed the rest of his stromboli aside. His fingers laced atop the table.

“I can’t tell you what to do, sweetheart, but I’ll tell you what I think. Should you live your life to the fullest? Absolutely, no contest. Should you ignore the evil around you? No, I wouldn’t ignore it. Given what you are, there’s a good chance it’ll come looking for you regardless.”

He licked his lips and paused before continuing. I stayed silent.

“Striving to make the world a better place…it’s a noble endeavor, but a very difficult one. Is it worth it to try? I think if your heart’s in it, if it’s something you feel strongly about and it’s something honorable and good, then it’s always worth it to try. I can’t guarantee you’ll succeed, and many times it might feel like all you’re doing is trudging uphill through two feet of shit and a thunderstorm. It might even be like that for the rest of your life, but if you care, truly and passionately, then no matter what happens in the end, you’ll be glad you did it.”

The sound of a pin dropping would have seemed as loud as shattering glass. There were no words in my head or my mouth, just a vast emptiness as I tried to absorb and process what he’d just said.

Unfortunately, there was no time.

How could you know what happiness feels like if you know not what it means to be sad?
Right does not exist without wrong Hate exists because there is love.

To love is not to fear.
It is to be godly.”

~Review~

*A Copy was provided through Review Opp. by Xpresso Tours*

The beginning was kinda slow for me, took me a while to get into it but I’m glad I finished it! Honestly, when I read the description I knew I had to read this. I really enjoyed this book! Empty Threat is a very unique story with engaging characters and an exciting execution

Empty Threat  starts off with Elena Black attempting to avoid socializing at her friend, Olivia’s party by using her secret power to jump into a fictional world by just reading a few ages of a book. It’s only when she wakes up in the real world after her fictional journey that she realizes something seems different. Everything is different and people are after her. She goes through a lot! I won’t give too many spoilers but you have to read it!

I loved this book! I know I already said that but I just can’t say it enough! I’m really happy I got to read and review it! I can’t wait for the next book in the series! I highly recommend it!

The Blue Moon Narthex by N.J. Donner
Goodreads Button with Shadow

#1:

“Fires all around them limited their path through the rubble. Screams and sirens accompanied by the crackling flames filled the evening. Their embers were consumed by the dense black smoke. And then Cole knew the oil cars had ignited. A dew faint outlines of others reeled through the smoldering wreckage.

#2:

“The dark decorative carved wooden molding was cracking. The large floor rugs were well-worn and starting to fade. Maps lined the the wall, denoting railroad lines crisscrossing the nation. But these maps had additional offshoot lines. Had Father been planning an expansion? Pins dotted the maps with notes. On the shelf by the desk sat a vase of wilted lilies, He reached forward one of the limp flowers, and then drew his hand back.”

#3:

“The narthex illuminated. A loud noise came from inside the fireplace. They all pulled away, startled at the what sounded like stones grinding against one another as the fire logs slid back and the hearth split at the mortar seams.”
