~Book Excerpt: Fable And Unfortunate Fairy Tale Book 3~

Mina stopped and parted the long weeping willow’s branches,

and could see the rose resting against Jared’s black boot. Wait…not

Teague reached down to pick up the rose and brought it to his

nose to breathe in its scent. His hair was a lighter shade of brown

than Jared’s, and his eyes were a deep blue, while Jared’s were a

haunting gray. They both had similar angular jaws and drop-deadgorgeous

looks. Teague once again was dressed in black, and Mina

had a mind to joke about whether he was going to a funeral, but he

was, so the words died on her lips before she even spoke them.

Instead, she glared at him and held out her hand, demanding

the rose without saying a word.

Teague’s eyes widened and looked her over, never once

dropping his Cheshire Cat smile. “I only came to pay my respects.”

“What respect? You don’t respect me or my family.

Otherwise, your kind never would have cursed us.”

“You’re wrong—it’s always wise to respect your enemies.”

“Well, I don’t respect you.”

“You should, Mina. Do you see what happens when you

ignore your duty—when you ignore me?” He pointed to Charlie’s

grave, and his voice became threatening. “I don’t like to be

ignored, and now you have one less distraction in your life, so you

can focus more of your time on me.”

Teague’s words confirmed her worst fears. Her actions had

led Teague to strike out against her family and kill her brother. Her

stomach dropped, bile rose in her throat, and every inch of her was

sick with the guilt his words layered on her. It was her fault, and

she knew it. But she couldn’t show him how weak she was, and

how much his words had affected her. She had one more person to

protect: her mother, and she would not be negligent again.

“You’re not welcome here. So please leave.” Mina snatched

the rose out of Teague’s hand and felt a sting in her palm. She

winced in pain but refused to acknowledge it.

Teague reached for her hand, and Mina let him open up her

palm to inspect her wound from the thorn. She was still reeling,

and her whole body shook with anger. Teague leaned forward and

blew on the small cut in her palm, and it healed itself. She ripped

her hand from his grasp and took two steps away from him, almost

falling on the ground. She needed to keep better control of herself.

She needed Jared.

“How is my dear brother?” he asked, as if reading her mind.

“Why don’t you ask him yourself?”

His eyes darkened. “We are not exactly on speaking terms.”

“It wouldn’t have anything to do with the fact that you keep

trying to kill me, would it?”

“Now, sweet Mina, our fight goes back long before you were

born. But you can’t hold it against me that I’m only doing my job.

I’m supposed to throw quests your way, and you are supposed to

try to stop me. It’s as simple as that. I can’t help it if we have a

casualty or so in the process. That’s what makes the stories so

good.” He smirked. “That’s what makes them popular. That’s

what makes me powerful.” He was so close to her now that he ran

the back of his finger across her cheek, and she flinched and

smacked it away.

“I see that you are as disgusting as ever.”

“I see that you’re getting your fight back. You know, Mina,

out of all the Grimms over the years who died at the hands of my

fables, you are by far my favorite to toy with. I wonder why that

is?” he asked, appearing to ponder the question.

“Maybe because you picked the wrong girl to mess with.”

“I don’t think so. I’ve finally found the perfect Grimm. I think

you will be the most challenging. Which means your ending, the

tale that finishes you off, will make us both famous.”

Mina’s lip trembled, and she steeled herself to not show fear.

She stood her ground and looked Teague right in the eye. “A

thousand sweet words can never disguise the rattle of a viper about

to strike. I will not drop my guard ever again. And I will end this

curse…by doing whatever…or killing whoever…I have to.”

Teague’s face turned furious, and his lips pressed into an

angry thin line.

“Then be prepared, my dear Mina, for you won’t be able to

ignore this next tale. I’ve made sure of that.” He stepped away

from her. A crack of thunder rattled the earth and she jumped,

turning in surprise. A second later, pouring rain followed, soaking

everyone within minutes. Mina turned back toward Teague, but he

was gone.

Book Blitz- Seduce by Missy Johnson: Excerpt + Giveaway!

Seduce by Missy Johnson
Genres: Contemporary, New Adult, Romance

Twenty-five year old Jack Falcon doesn’t do relationships, and why would he when he has woman after woman literally throwing themselves at him? For Jack, life is perfect just the way it is. He works hard and he plays harder.

Jack’s life changes when he meets Belle. Unlike any woman he’s ever met, there is something about this girl that makes him unable to keep away, something beyond the youthful beauty and her innocent spirit. Belle is strong and independent, a big leap from the usual brainless chicks he tends to attract.

Jack begins a dangerous game. He is determined to seduce Belle, and without realizing it, his feelings for her develop beyond anything he has ever felt before. Things become complicated when he learns there are good reasons as to why he should stay the hell away from her.

How can you stay away from someone you want to spend every waking minute with? And what do you do when you know eventually you will destroy that person?

As their feelings for each other deepen, Jack struggles with his own internal demons which threaten to rip them apart. Jack is torn between following his heart and listening to his head, which keeps telling him he is not good enough for her. She deserves better than what he can give her.

How far will he push before they both fall over the edge?

“So I’m about to leave, and the question is, are you going to be leaving with me?” I downed the last of my drink and stood up, as if I didn’t care either way. This was easy to do because I really couldn’t care less whether she came with me or not. She opened her mouth, both shocked and aroused by my forwardness.

“You better shut that pretty little mouth, honey, or I’ll give you something to stick in there,” I grinned. I put out my hand, half expecting her to right hook me in the face. “Coming?” I asked. She took it uncertainly, allowing me to help her up. I suppressed a laugh, not wanting to be rude, but I couldn’t believe that line had actually worked!

“Do I get to know your name?” she asked breathlessly. I smirked at her, not believing for a second she didn’t know who I was. Everyone knew who Jack Falcon was. Pretending not to recognize me was like pretending not to know who the Queen was.

“Does it matter?” I asked, raising my eyebrows.

“I guess not,” she stammered, following me out the door. It always amazed me how easily they followed.

Lenobia’s Vow (House of Night Novellas #2) by P.C. Cast, Kristin Cast

Lenobia's Vow (House of Night Novellas, #2)

Lenobia’s Vow (House of Night Novellas #2)
by P.C. Cast, Kristin Cast
Rating: 5/5 Stars
The second in the enthralling new mini-series of novellas from the #1 bestselling authors of the House of Night, Lenobia’s Vow tells the gripping story behind the House of Night’s enigmatic riding instructor – and one of Zoey’s closest allies against evilThe House of Night is an international publishing sensation; with almost 12 million books in print, and an incredible 120 weeks on the New York Times bestseller list, the series has taken the world by storm. Now, the excitement continues as the Cast mother-daughter duo shares the back stories of a few of the House of Night’s most important – and mysterious – characters. The second of the House of Night Novellas brings us Lenobia, the strong, beautiful horseback riding instructor, who guides Zoey through some of her darkest hours, and has a dark secret buried in her own past…In a small southern town at the turn of the century, young Lenobia is developing into a beautiful young woman with ideas of her own. But when she is Marked as a fledgling vampyre, her world turns upside down, and she is drawn to the musical streets of New Orleans. There, she learns of the city’s dark underbelly, ruled by powerful black magic. As Lenobia experiences her first love – and loss – and discovers a passion for horses to sustain her, she must come face-to-face with Darkness itself. And she may not escape without scars.

I have been counting the days until LENOBIA’S VOW would be released because she is one of my favourite characters in the HOUSE OF NIGHT series. There hasn’t been much information or background about Lenobia within the series and I felt that she had the most to reveal but I could be wrong, but there’s a saying in my family that sometimes what happens in the past helps shape you as a person. One of the things I love about the novellas is the illustrations which happen to depict one of the keys emotions or scenes within in that particular chapter. For me it adds more to the emotional side of the story and sometimes word can’t express as much but as many people say “pictures say a 1000words”, with that I have to agree. Lenobia’s story begins in small southern country and ends in stunning New Orleans. After reading DESTINED I have a better understanding why she reacted the way she did within the 9th book of the series. I have a strong feeling that readers should read DESTINED before they sink their teeth into this breath taking second novella. As a fan of the series I have developed a deep love for the series and the characters and sometimes there a few that I’m able to connect more with and have a need to know their back story so I can better understand them and the choices they have made to get this point in their lives. DRAGON’S OATH was a story of love and loss, but sometimes I feel that as reader I didn’t get a better understanding of him, but after reading DESTINED some things came to light, we saw the old Dragon before his beloved was taken from him, but with LENOBIA’S VOW I feel that I know how a lot better and can’t wait to learn more. The novella has a bitter sweet ending for me, she is finally marked and protected from the Bishop but it seems to have come with a price that she would rather give her life for than see the person she loves sacrifice his to protect her. I had tissues piling up at the end and I know that you will not be disappointed. It’s a love story with a lot of twists and turns but also has evil (which explains her aversion to Neferet when her darkness is revealed) mixed with a healthy dose of sadness.I’m hoping that the next instalment NEFERET’S CURSE will hold some interesting facts about who she is and how she becomes that way. I for one am not a fan of hers but there is always something interesting about her that draws you into her world even if you’re looking forward to her downfall.

Elphame’s Choice (Partholon #4) by P.C. Cast

Elphame's Choice (Partholon, #4)

Elphame’s Choice (Partholon #4)

Rating: 54/5
I was marked from birth as belonging to the Goddess Epona–but that didn’t make my life easy. Because of my “blessings,” I was set apart, worshipped, unable to make real connections with others. Then came theFeeling, and with it a glimpse of my destiny. It led me to the MacCallen castle of legend, deserted since the terrible Fomorian war.
I followed the wordless call to breathe new life into a place long dead, but I didn’t realize there were dark remnants of the war lingering in the nearby forest–victims and survivors who remained hidden. Others marked as different, powerful. Feared.
My choice was now twofold. I could keep to the happiness and safety of my newfound home, or I could choose a path that led to something more terrible, more dangerous, more thrilling than anything I’d ever expected.
And in that future I might never be alone again. . .
My thoughts:
I absolutely fell in love with all the characters in this book!Which is probably why I can’t get the stinkin story line out of my head. I keep thinking so and so should have done this, or that was a bad choice. That, and just plain mourning. Ugh!Seriously, I need to move on…

Elphame is the beautiful daughter of the Goddess Incarnate Etain. However, having a human mom and a centaur dad has made her a genetic one of a kind. She is very human from the waist up and from the waist down she has two horse legs with shiny black hooves. Despite her beauty, she is an outsider and has never fit in.

That all changes when she decides to restore and take ownership of the MacCallan Castle. With her handsome brother Cuchulainn at her side, as well as a host of other outsiders looking for acceptance, the castle becomes the symbol of new beginnings.

However, don’t be fooled by the title. This book is not just about Elphame and her choice, but also her brother and his (and to a degree the choices of others.) The story is told in third person but goes back and forth between Elphame’s storyline and Cuchulainn’s. At times I wondered why P.C. Cast didn’t devote the whole book to Elphame. I actually thought maybe P.C. Cast was just writing to write a book. Though after reading the book I realized this is very much a character driven storyline plot and the whole is greater than the sum of all the parts

Like I mentioned earlier I LOVED all the characters. There was such a variety and the scope of the each was perfect. Example, Elphame was beautiful and had lived a very rich life, yet she was genuine and cared deeply for her family, friends and her people. She put them above her and worked along side them on the renovations. Cuchulainn was a protective brother and warrior, lover of the ladies and at times, was serious. His character grows so much in the book and in the end my heart breaks for him. Brighid, the centaur huntress who had left her own kind to live and work with the MacCallan, is fearless, intelligent and a faithful friend.

However, my favorite character is the healer Brenna. She is physically (and emotionally) scarred. Half her face and upper body have horrible burn scars. She has suffered a life of hardship, ridicule and stares because of her appearance, however finds hope and new beginnings at MacCallan…along with something else she never expected. I felt for her character and was emotionally invested in her, and to an extent related to her feelings. She too grows in the book.

The only character I am unsure of my total love for is Lochlan, Elphame’s lifemate. At first I really liked him. He had a tremendous inner struggle, yet didn’t let it over power him. My love for him lessened towards the end of the book. He started telling lies, lies out of love, but lies nonetheless. I do not like liars.

Okay, enough already…you get the point. I liked the book.

If you want a good (romance, sort of) story, with great characters (no action here) read this book.

Book Blitz-Captivated by Emily Jane Trent: Excerpt + Giveaway!

Captivated by Emily Jane Trent
(Adam & Ella #1)
Genres: New Adult, Romance

Ella Walker, still suffering from issues of mental abuse, turns twenty-one and meets the man of her dreams. Can she break the bonds of her emotional prison and be the woman he desires? As an aspiring romance author, Ella struggles to find passion in her work. When Adam Bianci, the gorgeous Italian billionaire appears in her life, he lights up her drab existence. She’s determined not to let him slip through her grasp. But will his secrets and the tangled web of his own abuse keep them apart?

–Barnes & Noble:

Ella looked away, then back, for verification he was real. Sitting some distance from her, he didn’t move. Not even a twitch. Possibly, he didn’t see her. She stared unable to look away, afraid he’d vanish if she didn’t keep her eyes on him. If she’d thought he was handsome before, he was even more so that morning.

In the pale orange light of the sun, just barely burning over the horizon, his lightly bronzed skin shone. His hair was a golden brown, and though he wasn’t looking her way, she remembered that his eyes were golden amber. She’d looked into them one time, the one time that he’d held her, saved her. He’d looked at her when he’d slid her off his back, and she’d never, ever forget those eyes. The light flattered him. He looked golden, gorgeous and golden, that’s how she’d describe him.

She should go over. Thank him for the other day. Dreadful shyness took her, and she could not will her body to move. She knew if she did manage to walk over, and by some remote chance attempt to thank him, she’d freeze up. She just knew it. Social graces were not high on her list. People often thought she was stuck-up, not knowing that her silence was shyness.

If she didn’t move now, she might lose her chance. Yet despite her great need to say something to get his attention, she was riveted to the spot. Just staring. He didn’t give any sign he noticed her, and it occurred to Ella that he didn’t like her. He’d felt compelled to save her, but he’d rather not have anything to do with her.

Emily Jane Trent writes steamy romances about characters you’ll get to know and love. The sex scenes are hot, and the romance even hotter! If you are a fan of stories with a heroine that’s got spunk and a hunk of a hero that you’d like to take home with you, these stories are what you’re looking for. The stories will let you escape into a fantasy – and you won’t want it to end – ever.

Night Star (The Immortals #5) by Alyson Noël

Night Star (The Immortals #5)

by Alyson Noël
Night Star (The Immortals, #5)
After fighting for centuries to be together, Ever and Damen’s future hinges on one final showdown that will leave readers gasping for breath. Don’t miss this explosive new installment of the #1 bestselling series that’s enchanted millions across the world!Haven still blames Ever for the death of her boyfriend Roman, no matter how hard Ever’s tried to convince her it was an accident. Now she’s determined to take Ever down…and destroy Damen and Jude along the way. Her first step is to tear Ever and Damen apart—and she has just the ammunition to do it.Hidden in one of Ever’s past lives is a terrible secret about Damen—a secret that illuminates new facts about her relationship with Jude, but that’s so dark and brutal it might be enough to drive her and Damen apart once and for all. As Ever faces her greatest fears about the guy she wants to spend eternity with, she’s thrust into a deadly clash with Haven that could destroy them all.

Now it’ll take everything she’s got—and bring out powers she never knew she had—to face down her most formidable enemy. But in order to win, she must first ask herself: is her own survival worth dooming Haven to an eternity of darkness in the Shadowland? And will learning the truth about Damen’s past hold the key to their future?

First of all, this is the most slow paced book ever. No excitement, no nada. Okay so, Ever discovers that she was a slave in one of her past lives, who lost who family in a fire, and who was her hero? Damen. He rescued her by buying her, by later going back to try and buy her family. Little did he know that Roman snuck in the night a light the place in flames. Jude, who was also part of the salved family, decides to give it a go and try to win her back. Which, like always, he ends up butting in.Damon, the sweetest guy I’ve ever read about, ends up protecting Stacia. Ever’s enemy, thanks to God that she understands why he needs to protect her; she reminds her of herself with the hoodies, and the iPod. While Heaven tries her best to separate Damon from Elena, she blames her for the death of Roman.Jude, a lost cost. I don’t even know why he is STILL in the picture. Why would you butt in a relationship if you know it will never work? If you had a chance to see the past, and know parts of the future, wouldn’t you want to change it? Yes. But when it’s obvious that you are not meant to be with that person, then why keep butting in? You are only going to hurt yourself over and over again.

Finally, when Ever is going through the death experience all over again and ends up in Shadowland, she sees who she is really meant to be, and that her feelings for Damen were never mistaken. He is the man she loves and desires the most. End of Story.

I just hope the last book (Everlasting) is better than Shadowland, Dark Flame, and obviously Night Star.
