Dark Desire (Touched by You, #1) by Emily Jane Trent

Dark Desire (Touched By You, #1)

Kindle Edition, 1 edition , 108 pages

Published February 6th 2013 by Emily Jane Trent

Rating:4.5/5 Stars

~Description~

Natalie Baker, a girl from rural America, has an unforgettable sexual encounter with billionaire, Tanner Clarke. The passion between them ignites a flame that can’t be put out. She discovers her dark desire – her life will never be the same.

“There was something in his face. She couldn’t think the thought she grasped for. His skin was pale, and she got the impression he wasn’t out in the sun much. His baby blue eyes were so bright, they appeared luminous. And his dark brown hair shimmered with auburn highlights, here under the blaring brightness of the lobby. He was just beautiful. She’d never known a man could be beautiful, but he definitely was.”

Dark Desire, 1st novella in the Touched By You series, is a romantic tale that takes place in New York. The sex scenes are graphic – includes light BDSM. The author was inspired by the endearing romance in the Twilight series. And the sexual enlightenment, and sweet romance, in the Fifty Shades Of Grey series. Touched By You is a unique love story, with full character development, and added intrigue from the billionaire’s life, that will make each book in the series hard to put down.

~Review~

**A copy was provided by the author**

Natalie skips her prom and goes to a concert with her friends instead
where she meets Tanner. After a sensual exchange, Tanner disappears. This left her heartbroken, and she cannot move past what they shared, she continues to relive their brief encounter.

Years later Natalie when she begins to live her dream of attending the New York Fashion Institute, she and Tanner cross paths once more and not by accident.

Dark Desire is the 1st novella in the Touched By You series. It’s a well written; the author wasted no time in setting the love story up between Natalie and Tanner. I found that it was very similar to the Fifty Shades of Grey series. It was a short, hot and steamy story.

Overall, I loved it; there was great character development, easy to follow and captivating. Though it was WAY too short!! But, I definitely couldn’t put it down! I would recommend it to anyone who has read and loved the Fifty Shades Trilogy.

Happy Reading!

Honor Thy Teacher (Honor #2) by Teresa Mummert

There are two sides to every story. Emma told of her love for William in Honor Student. Now read things from his dark and twisted perspective.

EROTIC LOVE STORY (✓) STRONG SEXUAL CONTENT (✓) BDSM (✓)

Review:

OK so for the first half of this book, it was exactly as I thought it would be. I kind of got annoyed because William didn’t seem to have much depth or life outside of Emma. She consumed him. There was nothing extra except his internal thoughts to the situations already read in the first book. I was expecting a little more. Well it came. That something more came and blew me away. It was one surprise after another. William had me totally snowed in the first book! Right along with Emma. I can’t believe it. My main question is, did he love her the first time he said it to her. Because I thought he said it more to pacify her and keep her from running. I think it was after she said it back later that he realized maybe he does love her. I think by the end of the book he definitely loves her, but WOW he is twisted!

I SO did not see all those lies coming. I’m just blown away. I loved it. I loved every second of it. I was eating it all up, every word that fell from his mouth after learning just who he really was took on all new meaning. It also shows just how naïve Emma really is too. I can see how her brokenness and destructiveness would bring out his protective side. He always wants control and she just wants someone to care about her. His domineering and controlling ways fills that void in her. She fits his personality so perfectly, these characters were written so perfectly for each other. But I didn’t understand just how perfect until this book. I also liked seeing Emma from Williams point of view. You get a feel for how sad she is in the first book, but you don’t get the whole effect because you don’t see her from an outside perspective. I LOVED that William could see how self destructive she was just by watching her. I loved seeing it from his POV.

In the beginning I kept wondering why he was so hard on himself, because he really did not think he was any good for Emma. I kept thinking there had to be more to the story behind his ex-wife, it just didn’t seem like enough. His opinion of himself seemed too extreme for the explanation. But when it all came out, my mouth literally dropped open. BRILLIANT Teresa Mummert! I just love that I didn’t see any of this coming.

I don’t know whether to like William or hate him. Actually, I take that back. I started hating him part way through the book, when I realized the feelings he was showing Emma were sort of faked. He was such a jerk. But towards the end I started believing him and started worrying with him about what will happen when all his secrets come to light. He got very possessive of her. I loved it every time he thought “Mine.”

Mine. I was addicted to her. To her touch, her smell.

He shot Emma a glare and her gaze dropped to her plate. I wanted to leap across the table and strangle him. Mine.

So when do the next 2 books come out? I can’t freakin’ wait!! Ugh, I should have waited to read these 2 books until the others were already released. I hate waiting. I just didn’t know I was going to be so blown away.

OH there was one thing that the author left out of this book. And I wonder why. After the first night she stays at his house, he takes her back to her car and she is hurt and feeling rejected again he says “I’m just trying to protect you.” Then she says “By hurting me?” He thinks she means physically and explains that she didn’t use her safe word blah blah blah. But she says in the first book, “I’m not talking about then, I’m talking about now.” or something along those lines. But in this book she never says it. I don’t know if he just supposed to be lost in his own thoughts feeling guilty about putting blame on her for the whole safe word thing or what, but I was really interested in his internal reaction to her words. Because up until this point he had not shown very much emotion and in the first book this is one of the first spots where he lets her see his emotions. I thought that was kind of a big moment, because he realizes if he has the power to hurt her than that must mean she cares. But I guess not. :(

QUOTE

“I love you, William. I’m not going anywhere. No amount of money in the world could compare to this moment right here.” What about the lies? What if the hands I touch you with have also taken the lives of others? I pulled her against me and kissed her head. If I didn’t do everything in my power to stop it, she was going to leave me. She just didn’t know it yet.

~Emma (and Williams thoughts)

Still Into You (Loving On The Edge #1.5) by Roni Loren

Description
Three days. No rings…Seth and Leila used to have trouble keeping their hands off each other. Passion, desire, love—it was all there. Yet, eight years after their whirlwind marriage and kids, they’ve settled into a life where choosing Letterman over Leno is considered a wild night.

Seth knows things need to change. But when he hears his wife call into a relationship radio show and admit she’s been tempted to cheat, he realizes how far off course they’ve gotten. He comes up with a dramatic plan. Three days. No rings. He’ll take Leila to The Ranch, a resort where any sexual fantasy can be had, and give her the freedom to have whatever or whomever she wants.

However, Seth doesn’t intend to simply stand by and watch other men fulfill Leila’s dark desires. He has a lot more bad boy in him than his wife suspects and he knows there’s only one man who can give her what she needs. Now he has to show her why that man is him.

Review:
So, long-awaited and devoured in one sitting but a nice satisfying little appetizer for Melt Into You, Roni Loren’s next full length novel to be released next month. This is the story of Seth and Leila. Leila is Jace’s (from Crash and Melt Into You) little sister. She and Seth got together when they were still at college. She was a virgin, he a little more experienced. They were very much in love but she fell pregnant. He stood by her despite the disapproval of his family and they married and made a life together.

Now, seven years on, they’re in a rut. They function as man and wife, mother and father but never seem to really see each other and sex has become a once a week vanilla missionary position horizontal shuffle duty and, now, even that is fading away, the spark completely extinguished. Their priorities have shifted from each other to mortgage payments and careers.

Seth feels he needs to do something, he loves Leila after all, and is galvanised into action when he accidentally overhears Leila calling a talk radio station to confess that she almost strayed with her new client, Kade. Mmmmm, Kade. Sorry, where was I??

Jace advises Seth to take Leila to The Ranch, a high end BDSM retreat, every room equipped with shackles and restraints. They start to play and all goes well, at first until Seth gets a call from his boss and tries to put an end to the weekend. So, this is decision time – what takes priority – their careers and mortgage payments or the future of their marriage?

I very much enjoyed it – it’s definitely BDSM lite despite the club setting, nothing very hardcore. It’s a sweet story – Seth and Leila’s love for one another is obvious and this is all about reigniting the fire in their relationship which had become buried under the weight of their responsibilities.

Jace is up next in Melt Into You and I really hope that Kade gets his own novel sometime soon. Happiness is a warm sadist, after all!!!

Her younger sister is missing, suspected to be hiding from cops and criminals alike at a highly secretive BDSM retreat-a place where the elite escape to play out their most extreme sexual fantasies. To find her, Brynn must go undercover as a sexual submissive. Unfortunately, The Ranch is invitation only. And the one master who can get her in is from the darkest corner of Brynn’s past.Brynn knows what attorney Reid Jamison is like once stripped of his conservative suit and tie. Years ago she left herself vulnerable only to have him crush her heart. Now she needs him again. Back on top. And he’s all too willing to engage. But as their primal desires and old wounds are exposed, the sexual games escalate-and so does the danger. Their hearts aren’t the only things at risk. Someone else is watching, playing by his own rules. And his game could be murder.

Review:
Then:
Brynn LeBreck has had a hard life. Her mother comes home bruised, battered and drunk from the man she’s been with, and her baby sister having to witness her mother’s behavior. She’s taken a job as a receptionist in the campaign office of a soon-to-be senator. On her first day she notices all the girls fawning over the soon-to-be senator’s son, Reid Jamison and thinks nothing of him. After all, he’s got money, is well connected and can have everything handed to him on a silver platter. What the heck would he want with a girl who would never measure up to his social circle? She’s nothing like all the other girls, this intrigues him, and automatically does he ever so want her. As the summer goes on, Brynn and Reid become closer, go out on dates and even get caught in an almost inappropriate places. Reid is being pushed by his aunt and uncle (who have been like a mom and dad to him) to get together with a girl from their social circle. Brynn knows that this thing they have going on won’t last. Just a summer thing since, well, she’s not really the girl for him. Reid also has a secret which his aunt wants him to bury. He’s got a penchant for something deviant. He wants to tie Brynn up and dominate her. His aunt thinks that Reid could end up like his father so he thinks there’s something wrong with him for wanting to do that.

Brynn chances upon Reid at his friend Jace’s house when he said he had family plans. When she sees the girl that Jace has invited over to help “cure” Reid, Brynn realizes that it’s time to get out of their relationship. Reid confesses that there is a darker side to him and Brynn wants to help him with it. At first he refuses to allow her to do so but Brynn pushes him until he takes control.

Brynn finds out that Reid has a girlfriend and this breaks her heart. Here she was, falling for him when all along he’s kept this secret from her. The way that she finds out completely broke my heart. It was just horrible.

Now:
Brynn meets Reid at a fundraiser for The Women’s Crisis Center of Dallas where she works. He’s agreed to be the new lawyer for the center. From the moment Brynn’s boss re-introduces them, faint feelings thought long hidden in the past resurface. She’s vowed to feel nothing. This man was the lawyer for the guy who murdered her mother.

Reid is still attracted to Brynn and heaven help him, he wants to do things to her that he did 10 years ago. But he can see that she won’t go for it. He soon realizes that maybe there’s still something there. She wants him too but is hesitant.

The case of the guy who was sent away for Brynn’s mother’s murder is innocent and Reid feels it. A call from Brynn’s sister saying she found something pertaining to the case brings Brynn and Reid together. After a frantic call from her sister, Brynn arrives at her sister’s apartment only to find out that she’s not there. Reid saves her from almost getting raped. After seeing Brynn off, looks around, trying to find the evidence that could prove his client not guilty.

Brynn soon learns that her sister may have gone to The Ranch, an invitation only club where the elite can fulfill any sexual fantasy. She decides to infiltrate the club, having had a bit of experience with being a sub, thanks to Reid. With the unwanted help of Reid who has connections, she sets out to find out more. Well, it turns out Reid’s “friend” is none other than his buddy Jace. Brynn starts to freak out a bit after Jace tells her what will happen once she gets into the club: she must perform in front of an audience with her chosen Master. She asks if he will be there. He says no.

When Brynn arrives at the club, she is prepped and is introduced to the owner of The Ranch. She freaks out and blurts out that she was raped and the owner, Grant, tells her that she can use the safeword (“Texas”) should she feel uncomfortable at any time during the weekend. Brynn knows that she must do this. She must find her sister even if it means giving herself over to a total stranger.

Brynn gets the shock of her life when she chooses her Master. Will she able to put aside old feelings and put on a show long enough to convince everyone that she’s there to be a sub and nothing more, or will she rekindle a passion for the man that once broke her heart 10 years ago? And will they finally figure out what really broke them apart? A weekend at The Ranch will reveal secrets long buried and a gasp worthy, omg-omg-omg-I-knew-it-but-not-really-cause-I-only-figured-out-half-of-it ending.

Favorite Quote:

“The elegantly scrawled sign for Wicked blended in with the upscale shops around it, but its name left no question about the store’s purpose. Leave it Reid to fail to mention that the uptown address he’d given her was a sex shop. She sighed. What else would it be? She wasn’t exactly applying for membership to the PTA.”

Overall:
Loren has written a sexy, sizzling, holy-carp-I-thought-my-book-might-burst-into-flames-cause-the-sex-is-smoldering-hot, heartbreaking erotic tale. Yeah. You don’t see erotic and heartbreaking in the same sentence but Ms. Loren’s debut is a wonderful balance of real, hard hitting issues, a bit of suspense and smoking hot, did-I-just-moan-out-loud? smexing. I was left utterly speechless once I put it down. It took me a couple of days to figure out how to go about this review. I figured out half of the answer to the long awaited mystery halfway through the book but a twist out of nowhere definitely had my jaw dropping and getting weird stares from fellow passengers as I neared the end. (Oh, did I mention that I finished this book at the airport? Yeah I did.) Well done, Ms. Loren. I look forward to your next book. The little teaser for Melt Into You had me shaking my fist at the book and wanting more.

Bared to You (Crossfire #1) by Sylvia Day

Bared to You (Crossfire, #1)

Bared to You (Crossfire #1)

by Sylvia Day
Paperback, 360 pages
Published April 3rd 2012
Rating: 6/5 Stars :)
Description:
Our journey began in fire…
Gideon Cross came into my life-like lightning in the darkness—beautiful and brilliant, jagged and white-hot. I was drawn to him as I’d never been to anything or anyone in my life. I craved his touch like a drug, even knowing it would weaken me. I was flawed and damaged, and he opened those cracks in me so easily…Gideon knew. He had demons of his own. And we would become the mirrors that reflected each other’s most private wounds… and desires.

The bonds of his love transformed me, even as I prayed that the torment of our pasts didn’t tear us apart…..

Review:
HOLY. FREAKING. GOD. THIS. BOOK. IS. BEYOND. AMAZING. This book was absolute perfection for me!! It had me swooning, drooling and panting over Gideon Cross and had me reading for the better part of it with the world’s biggest grin on my face. It was the perfect blend of heart warming, HOTNESS, and seriously tortured Alpha hero (and heroine).

The story is told from the perspective of Eva Hammel, a 24-year-old girl who comes from money but wants to make it on her own in the world. She chooses to start at the bottom and work her way to the top and gets a job in an advertising agency where she meets the guy who owns the company she works for (and pretty much everything in NYC) Gideon Cross and it’s just an instant connection between then. Sparks fly from the first glance. And things go from there.

Gideon Cross is just pure perfection in my eyes! He is tortured, passionate, controlling, but isn’t afraid to admit he f*cked up, tender, possessive, gorgeous , absolutely and utterly in LOVE with his girl… <3 <3 Gah! my heart is bursting here! <3
He’s so messed up but he’s trying his absolute best to be everything his girl needs him to be. I love how on the outside he’s this unobtainable larger-than-life god but on the inside, he’s just a man who wants to be loved by his girl.

“Oh, Eva.” He rubbed his cheek against my damp face. “I must’ve wished for you so hard and so often you had no choice but to come true.”

“What do you want, Gideon?” I asked softly.
He caught me to him and cupped my cheek in one hand. “I want to keep feeling the way I feel when I’m with you. Just tell me what I have to do. And give me some room to screw up. I’ve never done this before. There’s a learning curve.”

There are a lot of wonderful book couples out there but the thing that made me just LOVE this book was how functional Gideon and Eva were. Despite both having very messed up pasts, and both having their fair share of f*ck ups, they worked througheverything functional and passionately in a way that deeply warmed me heart. I loved how open and honest they learned to be with each other. They both made mistakes but they were understandable mistakes, nothing that make me want to throw my Kindle at the wall, nothing where I couldn’t understand the reaction they had, and they always talked everything through after. I loved how their love for each other made them stronger than any problems that came their way. It was so refreshing and heart warming.

[This relationship] is going to be a lot of work, Gideon.” I warned him.
“I’m not afraid of work.” He was touching me restlessly, his hands sliding over my thighs and buttocks as if caressing my bare skin was as necessary to him as breathing. “I’m only afraid of losing you.”
I pressed my cheek to his. We completed each other. Even now, as his hands roamed possessively over me, I felt a thawing in my soul, the desperate relief of being held – finally – by the man who understood and satisfied my deepest, most intimate desires.”

I loved how neither of them were man-whores or virgins before meeting each other. Not that I have a problem with either one. But it was refreshing and realistic that they had both been in a normal amount of relationships for a couple of mid-twenty year olds.

I also LOVED the side characters. Eva’s boss Mark and his partner Steven were delightful and fun. Her bi-sexual room-mate and best friend Cary was just so lovable. He was the ultimate big brother character with his own set of problems – I really really hope he gets a HEA. He so deserves one! We don’t get to see much of his past, but you can tell its really heart-breaking. I loved how he knew Eva so well, he just knew when something was wrong just by looking at her.

“I want there to be happily-ever-afters for the f*cked up crowd. Show me the way, Eva honey. Make me believe.” ~Cary

And did I mention how utterly HOT this book was?? I swear I was fanning myself from the moment they met (which was pretty much right at the beginning) till the very last page.

For those of you wondering about the connection between this book and Fifty Shades, I’d say they have about as much in common as Fifty Shades does with Twilight. Sure the basics are similar, mega-billionaire hero who is possessive of his girl… wait, no, that’s it actually. The BDSM element is utterly UNlike Fifty. There is no contract or anything like that, and it only comes up about 70% of the way through the book, and only briefly at that. Its more about the sexual control, but even then, it’s not about the kinky f*ckery the same way that Fifty was. But don’t let that deter you, this book is HOT, SEXY, deeply emotional, and a serious page turner…. I found this book more deeply emotional than Fifty and I loved Gideon even more than Christian which is saying a lot cuz all the Fifty books are on my 6 star list.

“You forget who submits, Eva,” he said gruffly. “I’ve given up control for you. I’ve bent and adjusted for you. I’ll do anything to keep you and make you happy. But I can’t be tamed or topped. Don’t mistake indulgence for weakness.”

… and gah, the library scene!!! *dies* seriously HOTTTTT

I just loved seeing these two people from such tortured and broken pasts coming together, finding peace in each other, making things work… its a beautiful story!!

“I love you, Gideon.”
“God.” He looked at me with something that resembled disgust. Whether it was directed at me or himself, I didn’t know. “How can you say that?”
“Because it’s the truth.”
“You just see this”—he gestured at himself with a wave of his hand. “You’re not seeing the fucked-up, broken mess inside.”
I inhaled sharply. “You can say that to me? When you know I’m fucked up and broken, too?”

The ending was in a perfect place. Happy, resolved but leaving me biting my nails waiting for October to pleeeeease get here faster!!

We’ll never be over, Eva. ~Gideon

This is a MUST read!! I’m buying it in hard copy to put on my favorites shelf and know for sure that I’ll be rereading it many times!! *swoon*
